AI Intelligence & Technology Monitoring

Detection of Emerging Artificial Intelligence Technologies

Early identification of the approaches, architectures and tools likely to become relevant to your activity, with an honest assessment of how far each one is from usable maturity.

The problem this service answers

You do not want to hear about a technology when it appears in the general press. By then your competitors have been testing it for a year and the useful head start has already been spent.

On this subject the gap between a research result and a usable product has become short, and irregular. Some approaches move from publication to production tooling within months; others circulate for years without ever becoming operational. Treating both categories the same way produces either wasted effort on ideas that go nowhere, or a permanent delay on the ones that do.

Detection is only half the value. The other half is the assessment of distance: what would still have to exist for this approach to be usable in your organisation, and what is missing today. Tooling, hardware, licensing clarity, evaluation practice and skills are all part of that distance, and each of them can be the reason a promising approach remains out of reach.

What the assignment covers

This service watches upstream of the market. Sources are research publications and preprints, open repositories, technical communities, conference programmes, patent activity and the recruitment and funding signals that indicate where effort is being concentrated. The aim is to see an approach while it is still being built, not once it has a commercial name.

Detection alone produces noise, so each signal is assessed before it is reported. We look at whether results have been reproduced, whether an implementation exists beyond the original authors, whether the licensing situation is workable and what the approach requires in practice. Signals that fail those tests are kept under observation rather than reported as opportunities.

Each element retained is presented with an explicit maturity assessment and a distance to your context: what it could change for your activity, what conditions would have to be met, and what a reasonable observation period would be. Some items justify a proof of concept now; most justify a note and a review in six months, and we say which is which.

How we work on it

  1. We define the fields to watch upstream, starting from your activity rather than from the field itself.
  2. We monitor research, open repositories, technical communities and conference programmes continuously.
  3. We filter signals for reproduction, independent implementation and licensing viability.
  4. We assess the maturity of each retained signal and the distance from your context.
  5. We report early with a clear statement of uncertainty, rather than late with false confidence.
  6. We keep an observation list and revisit it at the agreed frequency.

Where the information comes from

Sources are selected with you at the start of the assignment and reviewed as the subject evolves.

  • Research publications, preprints and conference proceedings
  • Open repositories, technical implementations and developer communities
  • Patent filings and public research funding programmes
  • Recruitment signals and specialised technical events
  • Independent testing, reproduction attempts and technical analysis

Possible deliverables

The format is chosen with you. A single assignment can combine several of them.

  • A watch list of emerging approaches with maturity levels
  • Detection notes on signals that concern your activity directly
  • A quarterly synthesis of what moved on the observation list
  • An assessment of the distance between an approach and its usability for you
  • A working session with your technical or innovation team

Who this service is designed for

  • Research and development teams
  • Innovation directors and technology scouts
  • Chief technology officers preparing architecture choices
  • Investment and corporate venture teams
  • Public research and funding bodies

What this service does not promise

Early detection is uncertain by definition. Some approaches we report will not mature, and some that mature will do so differently than expected. We state confidence levels explicitly and never present a signal as a settled trend.

How to start

Describe your activity and the technical constraints that would make an emerging approach relevant to you. We propose an upstream perimeter and an observation rhythm.

Questions about this service

How early is early?

Typically at the point where an approach has been published and independently implemented, but has no commercial packaging yet. Earlier than that, the volume of candidates is too large to be useful; later, the information is already in the specialised press and the advantage has gone.

Do you report approaches that later fail?

Inevitably, and we track them. A signal that stops progressing is itself information, particularly when your teams were considering it. The observation list records what was abandoned and why, which prevents the same idea being reopened every year without new evidence.

Is this useful outside a research department?

Yes, when it is framed as decision support rather than technology culture. For an investment committee or a strategy team, knowing that an approach is two years from usability is a scheduling input, and it also justifies not acting immediately on what appears in general coverage.

Tell us what you need to monitor

Describe your subject, your markets and your decision timeline. We study every request individually before proposing a monitoring set-up.

Every request is reviewed confidentially. No commitment is required to discuss a scope of work.
